HS Counseling at AAS

At AAS, we seek to provide an effective support structure for all students.  The High School Counseling program is designed to provide academic and social support to students and parents alike.  Students may see the counselors during their free time in the school day, before and after school, or during class with consent from the classroom teacher, or at the request of the counselor.  Parents may set appointments by calling the High School office or e-mailing the counselors directly.

Lauren Zimmerman’s professional career has always included working with children and families. Her background is varied having experience working at Head Start programs and residential facilities for children, working as a trained Youth and Family Mediator, serving as a caseworker completing family studies for adoptions, running drug and alcohol prevention programs, coordinating church youth programs, facilitating workshops on child abuse and sexual harassment and for 14 years now, working as a school counselor across all divisions.

Lauren enjoys working in the school environment as she feels that it provides a broader perspective on child behavior that allows her to be better able to provide the appropriate support and guidance for students and their families.

Lauren came to AAS from Bangladesh where she spent 3 years working with students in grades 6-9 as their school counselor. Providing transitional support is a key component of every counselor’s work in international schools but particularly as students move between divisions. Providing consistency, education, information and skill development assists students as they mature and prepare for their next step in their learning journey.

Lauren is committed to helping students successfully navigate these middle and high school years. This is her second year at AAS.

James Villers

James Villers first came to AAS in 2016.  He has worked in international schools for more than 20 years.  After several years as an upper school teacher of English, Drama, and Humanities, he moved from the classroom into the guidance office.  He has primarily worked as a high school counselor, but has experience in K-8, as well. 

The one constant in all of Mr. Villers' experience has been his commitment to student well-being.  He deeply believes that one of the best ways to ensure this success is to create a supportive partnership between school and home.  This systemic approach is especially important during the crucial transition time from middle to high school, as students begin some of the most formative years of their lives. 

Mr. Villers looks forward to working with all AAS parents and teachers on the shared goal of helping students achieve their academic and personal best.


HS counselor Bryn Will   

Bryn Will

After completing her undergraduate degree, Bryn Will worked in Moscow for ACTR/ACCELS, for which she coordinated application review and selection for the CIS-wide FSA FLEX high school exchange program.  She also worked as a Resident Director for university students studying Russian abroad, organizing cultural programs as well as providing social/emotional support for participants.  She returned to the United States in order to complete a Master’s degree, and in September 2001 she began her formal high school counseling career at Midwood High School in Brooklyn, NY.  Ms. Will worked at Midwood for six years—the last two as one of two college counselors for classes of 800 graduating seniors.  A school with two extremely competitive magnet programs, Midwood’s graduates would regularly go on to the top universities and colleges in the United States.  After returning to Moscow to join AAS in 2007, Ms. Will built upon her experience with university admissions in the US by attending numerous UCAS conferences in the UK and visiting universities in England, Canada, Spain, Netherlands, Bulgaria, and Italy, as well as continuing to visit institutions in the US.  Ms. Will is a member of the National Association of College Admissions Counselors and the Overseas Association of College Admissions Counselors.
